As his former club Arsenal struggled in south London Emmanuel Adebayor was celebrating a hat-trick in Turkey to boost Istanbul Basaksehir’s Super Lig title ambitions.
The controversial Togo striker was the standout man in Monday night’s 4-0 win over Turkish giants Galatasaray as his side cut the gap to Besiktas to five points.
Adebayor’s strikes came on the same day another Arsenal outcast of sorts, Yaya Sanogo scored a hat-trick for the Gunners Under-23s against Reading.
Sanogo’s was a perfect if unspectacular one, using his head and one with each foot, while Adebayor’s was similarly opportunistic.
His first came after 11 minutes tapping into an open net while his second before the break heading in off the crossbar from Junior Caicara’s cross.
He finished the job after 57 minutes with another header after goalkeeper Fernando Muslera failed to handle a shot.
Adebayor now has five goals in five games in Turkey.
