The Chilean, who broke the deadlock on the day, has been a star performer for the Gunners all season and his boss recognised this fact after tasting FA Cup glory for a seventh time.
The duo’s relationship has been strained at times this year as the Gunners went through a particularly rough patch at the turn of 2017.
They crashed out the Champions League after a 10-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich and the Chilean looked to be heading for the door.
Following disappointment in Europe, Sanchez had a falling out with his manager on the training ground, and was dropped for Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool back in March.
The pair patched things up with a less than convincing hand shake at London Colney, but the Gunners’ fortunes have recently started to turn around.
Ahead of the FA Cup final, Sanchez scored five times as the Gunners picked up wins in each of their last five fixtures in the Premier League.
Following Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday Wenger apparently had eyes for one man only, Sanchez.
TV cameras and photographers captured the pair embracing one another, even while the rest of the team celebrated.
And well, Arsenal fans absolutely loved it.
Sanchez spontaneously addressed his own future after the game when asked by BBC Sport whether he thought his early goal had set Arsenal on their way.
“I don’t know my friend, finished now, so happy for the win and the FA Cup, happy for the players, now I don’t know,” said the Chilean.
“My agent speaking after… I don’t know. Now, it’s the Confederations [Cup], now it’s focusing on the national team.”
