Wenger proud of Arsenal’s fightback — as home fans scrap in the stands

Date Posted,April 2, 2017

Arsene Wenger admitted Arsenal face a desperate scrap to break back into the top four after coming from behind to earn a point against Manchester City.

Fans came to blows inside and outside the Emirates, while hundreds of supporters gathered prior to kick-off to protest against what appears to be manager Wenger ’s intention to sign a new deal rather than leave this summer when his current one expires.

But Wenger, whose side remain sixth after Sunday’s 2-2 draw, said: “I am not aware of what happens outside. What is important in football is on the pitch and inside the stadium. And the fans were outstanding today.

“We are in a tough battle for the top four.

“I am professional and I have shown great loyalty in the past. I love this club.
