West Brom and Bournemouth new signings rated and slated on opening day

Date Posted,August 12, 2017

Ahmed Hegazi had the perfect start to life at the Hawthorns as his goal edged West Brom past Bournemouth.

The Egyptain centre back is on a season loan from Al Ahly and reached a Chris Brunt

Hegazi was one of two Baggies debutants, with Jay Rodriguez also appearing in blue and white for the first time, while Nathan Ake and Asmir Begovic started for the Cherries and Jermain Defoe came off the bench.

Our man at the ground, John Wragg, has run the rule over how the debutants performed.

Never heard of him to be honest. Egyptian international on loan from Al Ahly with a view to a permanent deal. Baggies might snap him up now with this goal and performance.

Jay Rodriguez (West Brom)

Brought life, pace and ideas to a West Brom attack that is often deadly dull.Might have had a hat-trick. Deserved one. He’ll be worth his £12m.

Rekeem Harper (West Brom)

The latest graduate from West Brom’s academy. Made his debut at 17 years old in midfield in the second half as a sub for another home grown lad, Sam Field.

Nathan Ake (Bournemouth)

Cost £20m after his loan. Hmmm. Where was he when Hegazi scored? No one challenged. Ake’s job to make sure that didn’t happen.

Asmir Begovic (Bournemouth)

Justified his £10m move after being loaned to Bournemouth. Busy from the first minute. Conceded when ball went through his legs. But don’t blame him. He did well.

Jermain Defoe (Bournemouth)

Came on in the second half for his second ‘debut’ having scored 19 goals for the Cherries on loan back in 2000-01. Quiet re-start for him, but looks like they will be relying on him again.
