That’s according to the 16-year-old’s representative Frederico Pena, who explained why the “next Neymar” favoured a move to the Spanish capital.
Los Blancos confirmed a couple of days ago that the youngster had signed for them in a deal believed to be worth £40million.
However he will remain at his club in Brazil, Flamengo, until 2019 or Real decide it’s time for him to move to Spain – whichever comes first.
The staggering cost of the transfer raised a few eyebrows around the globe. But it seems it could have been even more inflated if Vinicius had opted to sign for Barcelona.
In an interview with Globo Esporte, Pena explained why Real Madrid was a more attractive proposition for the teen.
“If anyone receives criticism, it will be Real Madrid for the bet they have made,” said the youngster’s representative.
“For them, they are assured it will work. There were other clubs interested and one offered more money.
“Barcelona put together a more lucrative package for the player.
“Many believe that it is madness [what Real Madrid are doing] but they were not the only ones involved in the supposed madness. They are not the only crazy ones willing to pay for the quality of Vinicius.”
Asked why Vinicius turned down Barcelona, Pena explained that the young Brazilian “liked the project” at Real Madrid more than in Catalonia.
“People get the impression that he made the decision based on financial situation but it’s not the truth,” he added. “I assure, the negotiating stance that Real Madrid took was better.”
