Why Wenger is so desperate to sign Mbappe, Lacazette AND Lemar for Arsenal

Date Posted,June 19, 2017

Last week, Mirror Football revealed that Arsene Wenger has identified his top three summer transfer targets.

After a disappointing league campaign, the Frenchman , who signed a new two-year deal with the club last month, is looking to guide his side back into the top four.

Despite winning the FA Cup for a third time in four years, Arsenal stuttered to a fifth-place finish. Next season, the north Londoners will battling it on Thursday nights in the Europa League alongside the likes of Everton.

To ensure there’s no repeat of this, Wenger is keen to recruit three men who could change Arsenal’s fortunes.

Kylian Mbappe

Age: 18

Apps (last season): 44

Goals: 26

It’s quite possible that everybody in the world now knows who Kylian Mbappe is. The French starlet burst onto the scene this season and hasn’t looked back.

Pacy, quick-footed and with an eye for a goal, this boy looks the real deal. It’s really no surprise to see Wenger is keen on the teenager. The only problem is the Frenchman faces competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

However, with no Champions League next season Mbappe would find less pressure at a club like Arsenal.

Wenger’s reputation of nurturing young talent is another factor that could sway the young Frenchman.

Alexandre Lacazette

Club: Lyon

Age: 26

Goals: 37

The France international had his best season in a Lyon shirt last term and at the age of 26 it’s the perfect time for him to move.

Lacazette would bring his devastating finishing to the Premier League allowing Alexis Sanchez to drop back and do his stuff behind the striker.

In the past four seasons the forward hasn’t dipped under 20 goals, and a steady goalscorer is exactly what Wenger needs up front.

With no other European giants interested, Arsenal need to take their chance on Lacazette and now.

Thomas Lemar

Club: AS Monaco

Age: 21

Apps: 55

Goals: 14

Rounding off Wenger’s trio of targets is another Monaco star. Lemar played a whopping 55 games last season as he helped lead the French side to Ligue 1 glory.

Given his age and position, the Frenchman scored an impressive nine league goals in 28 starts last term.

Lithe and brilliantly balanced, Lemar has the capability of beating a defender or two and conjuring something out of nothing.
