Alexis Sanchez struck in the fifth minute of Chile’s World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, clearly putting his Arsenal controversies behind him on international duty.
The Gunners forward, who wants double his current salary in a contract stand-off with the club, got his country off to the perfect start on Tuesday night.
Chile’s lead was doubled two minutes later by Esteban Paredes and he made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute.
A win for Chile puts Argentina, who lost 2-0 to Bolivia without suspended Lionel Messi, out of the top four automatic World Cup qualifiers in South America’s 10-team group.
West Brom’s Salomon Rondon wouldn’t let the 90 minutes pass, however, without having a say and pegged a goal back for himself just after the hour mark for 3-1.
