Tiemoue Bakayoko is more than open to a transfer to Manchester United in the summer, according to insiders.
The Monaco midfielder is wanted also by Chelsea, but Jose Mourinho’s side is still very much in the running for his signature.
But the 22-year-old has one condition on a move to Old Trafford, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Bakayoko has been the steel behind Les Monegasques’ landmark campaign, which has seen the Ligue 1 leaders reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
He has attracted interest from a host of Premier League sides with his ability to set Monaco’s blistering attacks into motion with his interceptions and lung-busting runs from deep.
But the MEN understands reports that Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with Bakayoko ahead of a £35m transfer are wide of the mark.
For United to stand any chance of landing him, though, they will have to either finish in the top four or win the Europa League.
“Tiemoue is listening to some clubs from England, including Manchester United, but there is nothing concrete right now,” a source close to the player told M.E.N Sport.
“Manchester United is a big club and [Jose] Mourinho is a big coach, and Tiemoue needs a big coach to continue his progression.
“He wants to play in the Champions League and it will be a worry for a club that does not play in it. It will inevitably be taken into account.”
Anthony Martial, who is a close friend of the midfielder and played with him for a season at Monaco, could yet prove the Reds’ trump card.
Martial posted a congratulatory message on Twitter when Bakayoko scored against bitter rivals Man City in the last 16 of the Champions League earlier this month
It is Martial, rather than Paul Pogba, who Bakayoko is understood to be closest to from United’s French contingent.
