Bellew urges Everton to take inspiration from his giant killing to end the Toffees’ 18 year Anfield hoodoo

Date Posted,March 30, 2017

Tony Bellew claims Everton can take inspiration from him as they bid to end their Anfield hoodoo.

Everton are enduring their worst run at Liverpool in their history and they have gone 16 games since they last won at Anfield in 1999, courtesy of Kevin Campbell’s early goal.

Bellew was at that game and the WBC cruiserweight champ says nobody gave him a chance before he stopped David Haye earlier this month.

“Maybe it is the year of the underdog, I don’t know,” said the rabid Evertonian, who walks out for every fight to the tune of Z-Cars.

“It’s the worst ground for me to go to. We never have any success there. The last time we had success there was Kevin Campbell and believe you me that was a long, long time ago.

“I was actually there. That game, the memories are vague because it’s that long ago. I hate going to Anfield. It never goes our way there.

“We never get a bit of luck that favours us. The only bit of luck we got there, in my experience over the last decade, was Phil Jagielka hitting that ball into the top corner a couple of seasons ago. That was about as good as it has got for me at Anfield.
