Manchester United could be without Luke Shaw when the 2017/18 season kicks off after he underwent surgery on his injured foot.
The 21-year-old was forced off during United’s 1-1 draw with Swansea last weekend and Jose Mourinho later described his injury as “big”.
It then emerged Shaw suffered had ligament damage and he was operated on late last week. Mourinho has already confirmed the former Saints defender will not play again this season but there are now fears he will not return fot the start of the next campaign.
The news is a huge blow to United and, in particular, Shaw, who has spent much of his short United career on the sidelines.
This is the seventh injury he has picked up since his £27million move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2014. In addition to the broken leg that kept him out for more than a year, Shaw has suffered problems with his hamstring, groin and ankle.
